What A Wicked Wild Weekend It Was.
A special thanks to all who came. Without you folk there would be no event. A big thank you to the Bands, D.J. and Stallholders as well. Also to all who worked behind the scenes.
Well Ta muchly to everyone.
We hope you all enjoyed it as much as we did.

Well, Thursday morning arrived and off we all
trotted to get the site set up. This went relatively well with hardly any
hitches. A few stalls and guests arrived early and all was well. Thursday
evening we all sat around with a drink or two and tucked in to a large Chilli
and
Curry
supplied by Geoff and Razor. As the evening wore on we fired up the fire pit and
just sat around chilling with
loadsa beer and good company. This was probably the only time over the next few
days we would get the chance or so we hoped, cuz once again we felt like
teenagers waiting for the guests to turn up at their first party. As the venue
had moved and as we didn't hold it last year it was like starting all over
again. Although we had over a 100 pre-book we were still hoping for folk to turn
up on the gate. Anyways the night drew on and the beer went down and finally off
we all toddled to our beds.
Friday morning arrived and the sun was shining
gloriously yet again now all we needed were folk to turn up. My phone started
ringing with people asking if it was still ok to turn up on the gate or to ask
for directions that put a grin on my face. The rest of the stalls arrived and
there was a steady trickle arriving.
Some
folk were already imbibing of the alcohol stuff whilst basking in the sun. After
all the wet weather over the last few weeks the gods were definitely shining on
us. The bar open with snap if you wanted it inside and Wez with his giant food
wagon if you wanted to eat outside. Very reasonably priced I might add. Well
about 4.p.m and the stage finally arrived, Elwyn had supplied us with a 40 foot
curtained sided trailer for the weekend which was ideal for the bands to play
outside. The D.J. Dave Bayer set up his equipment and at last we had music.
Junction arrived and also got ready for their first set. By now people were
gathering in the arena area and happily chilling and drinking away. Junction
played to blinding sets and folk were up and dancing to them. I
missed
most of this as there was an impromptu display up at the large paddling pool by
two very nice scantily clad ladies. All I can really say is that it was late at
the time and there were no kids about. A lot of gob smacked blokes and cameras
flashing though. My missus grabbed me by the arm whilst telling me she thought I
had taken enough pictures by now.
I
tried telling her that the club had made me official photographer to no avail,
hehehehee. Great show though girls it had me smiling for ages and the missus
scowling, ho hum. Anyways the night drew on and the fire was once again fired
up. This brought folk over like moths to a light. Once again, only with a lot
more people this time loadsa beer was drunk around the fire until the we hours
of the morning. Thankfully folk did eventually retire to there tents albeit
early hours of Sat morning.
Saturday morning arrived and the sun shone on the righteous once again. Folk were wandering about in a daze wondering what happened the previous night, breakfasts were being eaten thick and fast, in fact Wez had to fetch more stock in as he was running out of bacon and eggs which would be almost sacrilegious. The bar was opened and dinners were served and mighty fine grub it was. Well done to Wez and his team for some great food. People were still arriving and my phone was still buzzing with folk enquiring about directions and the such like. We were told that our road signs were not very prominent and on checking discovered that some rascals had actually taken them down and stolen them. Oh, well not a lot we could do about it now. Bikes started to line up for the custom show and there was some serious looking machinery there.
The Almaboobies arrived and as
the first band on, Static Vendetta didn't have a P.A. their sound engineer
happily got them set up and sound checked. Now bear in mind that these lads are
only 15 and never played an outdoor gig before and especially not to a bunch of
hairy arsed bikers. They were obviously nervous as F$%k.
They
were also playing for free so as to gain the experience. They got off to a very
shaky start but with some advice and guidance from the Almaboobies you could see
there confidence gain. Not particularly my kind of music but all bands have to
start somewhere and considering the circumstances, I reckon they held up well.
They were even a man, well boy down as they are normally a 4 piece and had to go
on as a 3 piece.
By now the custom show had been
judged and it was time for the presentation.
This went well and awards were made and the winners
grinned,
there were two special awards, one was for the little girl of about 10 years old
who had been
riding around all weekend on one of the smallest chops I've seen. Her special
award was for best little girls bike. Our Jock was also awarded worst paint job,
hehehee, he had someone paint our patch on his tank and we were all so glad he
had it done first as a couple of the lads were going to use the same artist for
their Harleys but definitely not now. Best club turn out went to the Kaisers and
longest distance to a couple from somewhere a long distance away.
The Almaboobies started their
first set and most everyone was up at the arena looking forward with
anticipation to see
and hear them. Well they started great but all of a sudden there was no sound.
Our mains transformer had tripped. Mick hastily unlocked it and re set it but
once again it tripped. Oh shit was the consensus of opinion. After diverting
some of the power we were up and running again with a note made to have thicker
cables for next year. These girls handled this hiccup with professionalism even
carrying on with the song exactly where they got cut off. They did us
proud
with both sets and made a lot of new fans that night. Elizabeth obviously likes
her new wireless guitar as she couldn't contain herself on stage and was happily
running and jumping around with the audience whilst still playing away. After
they had finished a few of the younger ones wanted to meet them and buy there
new CD. They were quite happy to do this and Daffyd from South Cymru was happy
to pose with them on stage and have his picture taken and get their autographs.
The raffle was drawn with prizes supplied from the stallholders. I must admit we rushed this through as some raffles seem to go on for ages. If you didn't collect straight away we went on to the next ticket.
Yet again the fire was fired up and yet again folk gathered around it. I must admit I retired before 12 to get some kip eye before I was back on duty at 4 a.m. I am assured that a good time was once again had by all and when I got up at 4, folk were still up and about.
Thanks go to all the individuals, clubs, stallholders, bands and Belper Rugby Club for making this event a success. I was worried about folk turning up and yet over the weekend we had about 600 people through the gate. Not bad for a new venue.
